An illegal immigrant who injured himself on Diablo Mountain near Tubac was rescued by helicopter Tuesday morning.
The U.S. Border Patrol was notified around midnight that a man from Mexico had called 911 to report he was injured and needed help in the mountains near Tubac, Agent Daniel Hernandez said.
A helicopter was sent up, the man was found and agents were with him by 5 a.m., Hernandez said.
Because of his injuries, agents with the Border Search Trauma and Rescue team determined he needed to be airlifted. He declined to provide details on the injuries.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment around 7 a.m. and upon his release he’ll be placed into the immigration system, he said.
