Several Arizona cities were ranked among the best for first-time home buyers, according to a report by a personal finance website.
One city, Peoria, ranked in the top 10 of WalletHub’s “Best & Worst Cities for First-Time Home Buyers” report, with several other cities ranking in the top 50.
Overall, 11 cities in the Grand Canyon State made the list of 300.
Peoria (7th), Chandler (12th), Gilbert (16th), Surprise (27th), Scottsdale (29th) were the cities that made the top 30 on the list. Phoenix, the state’s largest city, ranked 51st.
“WalletHub compared 300 cities of varying sizes across 27 key indicators of market attractiveness, affordability and quality of life,” WalletHub said in the report, which was released Tuesday. “Our data set ranges from cost of living to real-estate taxes to property-crime rate.”
Peoria had an overall score of 64.57, ranking 13th in affordability, fifth in real estate market, and 223rd in quality of life. Chandler scored 63.91, ranking 10th in affordability, 43rd in real estate market, and 122nd in quality of life.
Tampa, Fla. (No. 1), Overland Park, Kan. (No. 2), Thornton, Colo. (No. 3), Grand Rapids, Mich. (No. 4), Boise, Idaho (No. 5), Greeley, Colo. (No. 6), Arvada, Colo. (No. 8), McKinney, Texas (No. 9), and Centennial, Colo. (No. 10) rounded out the top 10.
Other Arizona cities that made the list include Mesa (No. 82), Glendale (No. 102), Tempe (No. 111), Yuma (No. 126) and Tucson (No. 137).
The five top Arizona cities on the list – Peoria, Chandler, Gilbert, Surprise, and Scottsdale – are all suburbs of Phoenix, which was the top metro area for job growth last year.
Arizona also ranks among the best states to start a business.
