The Sahuarita Mustang softball team kept up their winning ways in all three games they played last week. The Mustangs defeated Pusch Ridge 2-1 in 9 innings on April 16, traveled to Safford and beat the Bulldogs 13-5 on April 18, and capped off the regular season with a 13-0 victory over Catalina on Monday. Claudia Martinez pitched a complete game on Tuesday and only allowed one run and five hits.
Hailey Tanori scored both runs and Kianna Galindo drove in the winning run with a sharp single up the middle. Gracie Mejia Pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Martinez versus Safford to earn her ninth victory of the year. The offense scored in five of the seven innings with Tanori and Solymar Navarro collecting three hits apiece while Mejia and Leah Salas each had two hits. Destiny Hernandez led the team with four runs batted in.
The seniors played their final regular season home game on Monday and shut out Catalina behind three perfectly pitched innings by Paityn Arrington.
The five graduating seniors, Tanori, Arrington, Navarro, Galindo and Diamonique Villa reached base 4 times each. The team is now 25-5 overall and 9-1 in region play which is good for a tie for the region title with Sabino.
The No. 9 Mustangs will host No. 24 American Leadership Academy - Ironwood today at 4 p.m. in the 3A state tourney play-in game.
