Residents in the Madera Highlands area are being asked not to drink the water because e Coli has been found in the water.

Sahuarita Police Chief John Noland said the Town of Sahuarita and FICO are getting ready to put out news releases with more information, but he believes at least 1,000 people will be impacted by the discovery. A Nixle alert is also forthcoming, he said.

Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria normally live in the intestines of healthy people and animals. Most varieties of E. coli are harmless or cause relatively brief diarrhea. A few particularly nasty strains, such as E. coli O157:H7, can cause severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea and vomiting.

Check back later for more details.
