Nancy Byrd and Harvey Richardson opened Mountain View Café and Bakery.

Homemade breads, pastries, and cakes tempt patrons as they enter the newly opened Mountain View Café and Bakery on Duval Road behind Circle K.

Chef Harvey Richardson and baker and partner Nancy Byrd have had their eyes on this convenient location. After months of renovation, they opened the doors this month, serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday and private parties and catering on weekends.

The open, light-filled 2,200 square foot eatery includes a a spacious dining room and a separate meeting/dining room that can accommodate 16. Overall, Mountain View can seat 56.

Breakfast choices include a croissant sandwich with eggs, American cheese and ham or bacon and a biscuit-gravy special with a split biscuit covered in sausage gravy and topped with scrambled eggs and bacon.

For anyone who prefers “coffee and …” for breakfast there are muffins, fruit Danish, bear claws, chocolate-filled croissants, cheese pockets, cupcakes, brownies, cannolis and whatever else Byrd has baked that day.

“Homemade breads include cheddar cheese, cranberry nut, pumpernickel, pecorino-parmesan herb bread and change daily,” Byrd said.

Lunch features hot and cold sandwiches, salads and a soup of the day. There’s a prime rib roast beef sandwich, one-third pound Harris Ranch Angus Beef hamburgers, home-made chicken salad on a croissant, BBQ beef and other made-in-house selections.

All sandwiches are served with a choice of homemade potato salad, coleslaw, French fries or a cup of soup.

In addition to soft drinks, iced tea and coffee, beverages include margaritas, domestic and imported beers, sangria, and house wine by the glass.

Weekends are reserved for catering and in-house private parties.

“There are no set menus; catering a party can be formal, a barbeque and anything in between.

“Our focus is on high quality, homemade food at a fair price,” Richardson said.

Prior to opening Mountain View Café and Bakery, Richardson and Byrd worked for Caterpillar in Green Valley for 11 years. As professional chef and baker, they prepared meals for international customers who came for equipment training and often stayed for weeks.

Mountain View Café and Bakery is at 277 W. Duval Road. The phone number is 625-2526.
